Season 14's Mythic chase has changed, but it hasn't gone cold. The patch removed the accidental guaranteed Mythic payout from Mythic Tribute of Armaments at higher Torment tiers, so players can't just expect a jackpot every time they enter Kurast Undercity. It now boosts the odds instead. That sounds rough on paper, yet the dungeon is still where serious players spend their time. Good builds matter, sure, but smart prep matters just as much when you're trying to turn a stack of D4 items into a real endgame setup.
Set up the War Plans first
Don't burn a Tribute the moment you get one. Spend a minute at the War Plans screen and build around Undercity rewards. Activity Skill Points can change what shows up during a run, and that's the bit many players overlook. The middle route is worth considering if you want more Ancestral Tributes, while Gutter Filth opens the door for Portal Pranksters from activated beacons. A four-player group gets much more from this system. One player uses a Mythic Tribute, everyone clears it, then the next player starts theirs. It's not complicated, but it stretches every Tribute a long way.
Keep the run alive
Torment XII doesn't leave much room for sightseeing. You need a character that can move fast, wipe packs, and stay alive when the screen gets messy. Spiritborn builds are popular for a reason, though any well-tuned class can do the job. Your early priorities should stay in this order: • ignite Grand Spirit Beacons; • kill the Wrathful Spirits they call in; • hunt Afflicted Monsters for timer extensions; • push Reward Upgrades to four out of four. Once your group is killing the right targets quickly, the timer can stop feeling like a threat. That's when the run starts to flow.
Why Pranksters matter so much
The Cave, Ziggurat, and Temple districts are more than a route to the boss. They are where the War Plan investment starts paying off. A beacon can trigger a Portal Prankster, and nobody should ignore one when it appears. Killing it adds another reward chest at the end of the dungeon. Since Armaments Tributes no longer promise a Mythic on their own, extra chests are the practical answer to the patch. You're creating more rolls rather than hoping one roll carries the whole run. It takes attention, especially when mobs are everywhere, but those detours are usually worth it.
Finish strong in the Chapel
The Chapel is where a sloppy group gets exposed. Blood Magus can slow the pace, while Yoche the Golden demands movement, clean positioning, and damage that lands together instead of in drips. Save enough cooldowns for the boss sequence and don't let anyone wander off chasing scraps. A completed four-upgrade run with several Pranksters can still pay out multiple Mythics, which is why organised groups keep coming back. For players looking to buy cheap D4 items, the same lesson applies: better preparation creates better value, and Undercity rewards teams that play with a plan.
